The IUIS Education (EDU) and Gender Equality and Career Development (GEC) Committees and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) are pleased to announce their continued co-sponsorship of 8 travel awards (4/course) for trainees from the developing world to attend summer courses.

This year the schedule is as follows:
  • The AAI Introductory Course in Immunology (July 9-14, 2019, at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center, Los Angeles, California).
  • The AAI Advanced Course in Immunology (July 28-August 2, 2019, in the Seaport World Trade Center, in Boston, MA).

IUIS-Sponsored Stipends – Apply Now!

Application Deadline extended until 15 December 2018

The IUIS Gender Equality and Career Development Committee (GEC) in collaboration with the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) will co-sponsor 4 trainees from the developing world to attend an Advanced Course in Basic & Clinical Immunology, in the period between March 3 - 6, 2019, in Estancia La Jolla Resort & Spa La Jolla, USA. IUIS will pay for a travel bursary of up to USD 2,000 maximum, while FOCIS will cover for registration, 4 night’s accommodation and meals during the course. Additional expenses, if any will be the responsibility of the selected participant.

BSI 4th. Annual Remote Conference: Science & Society
The Beyond Sciences Initiative (BSI), founded at the University of Toronto (www.beyondsciences.org), is a not-for-profit network that provides a platform for dialogue among scholars around the globe. BSI’s mandate is to foster academic and personal growth while empowering young scientific leaders to make lasting and influential change within their local and global communities. This is accomplished by:
  • Bridging the gap in access to academic knowledge through mentorship and trainee exchanges;
  • Increasing cultural understanding among geographically separate communities;
  • Participation in outreach activities within local and international communities.
The BSI 4th. Annual Remote Conference: Science & Society will take place on February 9 and 10, 2019.

Two Immunologists Win 2018 Nobel Prize!

 

IUIS congratulates James Allison and Tasuku Honjo on their Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2018 "for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation." The prize recognises the fundamental immunology research that led to the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors for cancer treatment.
